Welcome!
I'm a nutrition intern and hops grower in Maryland. Zymary is a play on the word zymurgy, the science of fermentation.
I'm a student at the Maryland University of Integrative Health, working towards a Master's degree in Nutrition and Integrative Health. I believe as a society we've forgotten what a powerful healing force food can be. Through this blog, I'll be sharing some of what I've learned through academics and personal trial-and-error. I also need to complete my clinical hours! If you are interested in a nutrition consultation, please contact me at mary@zymary.com to schedule an appointment. We can meet via internet or in person in Laurel, Maryland. My nutrition studies led me to serve on the board of the directors of The Open Plough Project, a multifaceted non-profit organization working to change the food landscape of Baltimore by creating a food hub on North Avenue The project will provide resources for nutrition education, job training, and food-production micro-enterprises. I also manage a hops garden for my home brewing club, the Zymurnauts. We grow eight varieties--Cascade, Centennial, Columbus, Glacier, Goldings, Nugget, Tettnang, and Willamette--using organic methods. I am endlessly fascinated by these plants and the bugs and birds they attract. I hope you'll share this fascination throughout the seasons. |
